Hello New Neighbor!
The residents of Mount Vernon on the Potomac (MVOP) would like to welcome you to our small but unique neighborhood. There are 113 homes, a marina with a bath house and boat ramp, tennis courts, a picnic area and a pond – all within walking distance of George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate.
The MVOP directory lists the names and numbers of all your new neighbors. It also contains the names of the current Board of Directors, the text of the MVOP Citizen’s Association Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, and other useful phone numbers. The directory is updated and distributed at the beginning of each year.
The home owner’s association hosts a number of social events throughout the year including Friday evening happy hours, an Easter egg hunt, an Oktoberfest and holiday caroling. The MVOP Board of Directors meets each month to discuss issues facing the community. You should feel free to contact any of us with your questions, comments or concerns.
Home owner’s association dues are collected annually in March. You will receive an invoice from the treasurer indicating the amount of the dues and the due date. There is a penalty for late payment. Your dues generally cover maintenance of common areas, printing of the community directory, social events and trash collection. Regular trash is picked up Monday and Thursday; yard debris is collected is the spring, summer and fall on Wednesday; and recycling is collected on Friday. You must contact AAA to get one of their trash cans, and/or to make arrangements for special pickups (i.e., appliances, mattresses). Special pickups are at your own expense.
The gate to the marina, the marina docks, the tennis courts and the bath house are all locked. You may obtain keys from the Vice President for a $20 refundable deposit. We request that keys be kept only for residents of MVOP and not shared with neighbors and friends, and that you lock all facilities when you are done using them. All parties held at the Marina need to be booked in advance with the MVOP Social Chair to prevent scheduling conflicts with other families and/or neighborhood functions.
Again, welcome to the neighborhood. We hope you will enjoy your new home and that you will get involved in the community.
